Man shot dead in police view in Wallancedene

A 36-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a person near La Boheme Street in Wallancedene.

It’s understood the suspect was standing with the victim and another person when he opened fire. Police officers on patrol under operation lockdown witnessed the incident. The suspect then opened fire at the cops as he attempted to escape. They returned fire.

A 9mm norinco pistol with ammunition and an imitation firearm were confiscated.

Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi says the man faces charges of murder, attempted murder, pointing of a firearm and the illegal possession of firearm ammunition.
