Economic Freedom Fighters’ leader, Julius Malema is sticking to his claim that South Africa is headed to a blackout within the next two weeks.

He alleges that he had received information that America’s Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and South Africa’s Secret Service had met recently, and information was exchanged of Eskom’s grid collapse.

Malema says that the country’s leaders are aware of this information, but are not taking action to address the crisis.

Now his comments come as Eskom insists that the height of winter will see load shedding being implemented up to Stage 6, with Stage 8 being unlikely.

However, it says that there are many variables that may impact the grid at any point.

Meanwhile, Eskom’s acting CEO, Calib Cassim says he is not losing sleep over the possibility of a blackout, saying that the System Operator team tasked with the grid’s stability, is competent in its ability to keep the lights on.

He says that they are making decisions by the second to adapt to any change to the grid.
