Major drug bust near Worcester

An alleged drug trafficker has been nabbed near Worcester with narcotics worth more than R5 million.

Members of the Breede River K9 Unit, acting on information about drugs being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town, stopped the truck in question along the N1 highway. Using a sniffer dog, the drugs were found in two boxes in the driver’s compartment.

At least 20 plastic containers with methamphetamine were seized. The 59-year-old male suspect is expected to appear in Worcester Magistrate’s Court once he is charged.

Police say the bust is a blow for the distribution of drugs to Western Cape communities.
