The Department of Health has retracted its initial statement saying that learners would no longer need to wear face masks at school.

After being forced to clarify its earlier press release, it clarified that learners would still need to wear face masks at school.

The department has apologised for the confusion, labelling it as a regrettable human error.

Children would still be required to continue masking up to comply with the provisions of Regulation 16A on face masks in the classroom, and general indoor gatherings.

However, learners won’t be required to wear a mask when outdoors on the playground and sports field.
