A Cape Town teenager has been handed down a hefty prison sentence for the murder of two people and the attempted murder of three others.

The Blue Downs Regional Court sentenced the 17-year-old, Keanu May to 68 years behind bars. At least eight of them are for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

At the age of 16, May shot dead a person that was with his friends in a yard in Kraaifontein. Police say while out on bail for that crime last year, May killed a rival gangster. During that attack a nine-year-old girl was shot in the neck and a woman in the knee. He missed a fourth person.

The Anti-Gang Unit took over both cases. A strong case was built as May was convicted of all nine charges.
