People in Cape Town have been advised tokeep hydrated and try to limit their outdoor activity as today and tomorrow are expected to be scorchers. The City’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says the Weather Service has warned of temperatures hitting between 30 and 40 degrees. The centre says a close eye should be kept in particular on the elderly, persons with serious health conditions and young children.

High temperatures also increase the risk of veld fires. People have been urged to among others to not leave open fires unattended and to not throw bottles in the veld as they can magnify the sun’s rays and start fires.
