Irish Author Rejects Israeli-Apartheid

Irish author Sally Rooney has turned down an offer to translate her latest novel into Hebrew by an Israeli publishing company.

Rooney says her decision is due to her strong stance against Apartheid-Israel. The 31-year-old author notes that she will not sell translation rights to an Israeli-based publishing house and that her choice to not have her book ‘Beautiful World, Where Are You’ translated is in support of the Palestinian-led Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

While her decision garnered criticism on social media, she clarified that she isn’t against her book being translated into Hebrew, but she will only sell translation rights that are compliant with the BDS movement’s boycott guidelines.
