A Hermanus serial rapist has been sentenced to four life terms and 385 years in jail. The Cape High Court handed down the sentence against the man who was positively linked to a total of 15 cases through his DNA.
According to police, the convicted rapist would rob his victims of their cellphones, cash and then force them to a secluded place near Zwelihle where he would assault and rape them. The accused initially denied the more than 40 charges against him. But he later changed his tune and entered a plea agreement where he admitted guilt to all the charges.
Two of his victims were minors.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Yolisa Matakata has commended the investigating officer for the work done in this case. She adds that this hefty sentence is an indication of the high priority that the police places on crimes perpetrated against women and children.
