The Energy Department is in search of battery storage for just over 500MW.

It has opened the procurement process for potential bidders, more than a year after it was gazetted.

The bids would be for five substations in the Northern Cape and the department intends to select a single preferred bidder for each substation.

The department says bidders would need to contribute to socio-economic and environmentally sustainable growth.

The deadline for submissions is July 5th.
