Former Hawks office guilty of corruption, drug possession

A 55-year-old former Hawks officer has been found guilty in the Bellville Serious Commercial Crimes Court on charges ranging from corruption, possession of drugs, obstruction of justice and the loss of a firearm.

Esmarelda Bailey was arrested by the Serious Corruption Investigation team in 2011 and charged after she stole an exhibit firearm, sold a docket and stole a cellphone from a crime scene and also sold a police uniform. Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani says she has been out on bail ever since. Her conviction follows numerous court appearances.
