Workers resurfacing Koeberg Road in Brooklyn have been pulled from the site in the wake of a nearby attack on Mayco Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The vehicle he was travelling in was shot at on Wednesday in Democracy Way, Phoenix. The City’s VIP Protection Unit returned fire, injuring one of suspects and arrested him.
The attack comes as the Koeberg project has been under threat. Gangsters have been trying to extort the contractor. Earlier this month the project had to ground to a halt as a result. The City says two cases have been reported to Milnerton police.
Councillor Quintas says extortion syndicates and other criminals are posing a serious threat to service delivery, not only in Cape Town, but across the country. He has appealed to the National Police Commissioner and the Minister of Police to do their duty, and keep residents safe from these thugs.
