South Africa would very likely be experiencing load shedding every week for the next year.

According to the power utility’s weekly system status report, it is code red with a ‘likely risk scenario of more than 20001MW shortfall in the power needed to meet the demand and reserves.

This means that the country could experience at least two stages of power outages for the rest of the year as Eskom updated its unplanned outages to 15 000 MW for most of the year.

Independent Energy Expert Hilton Trollip says in the middle of March, Electrcity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa manipulated the stats of Eskom to say that the situation improved, when in fact it didn’t. He slammed the minister for misleading the public on the real situation at Eskom.
