The EFF wants the money that would be allocated for either the repair or reconstruction of Parliament to instead be used for its relocation to Gauteng.

The political party believes the massive fire incident should be seen as an opportunity to move this seat of government to Tshwane where the Union Buildings are so there can be a synchronization of government. It argues that this will slash government costs, wasteful expenditure as well as cut all ties related to the colonial framework established by those who conquered the nation.

The legislature based in Cape Town while the administration is located in Tshwane is said to be a deal that dates back to the Union of South Africa.
