An inquest has been opened into the death of 21 teenagers in the Eastern Cape as the nation awaits answers as to what led to this disaster.

Police say maximum resources have been deployed to investigate the deadly incident at the local tavern in Scenery Park in East London. Police Minister Bheki Cele indicates that an experienced team is complementing the provincial team to ensure that they get to the bottom of this incident.

He also notes that they are engaging stakeholders to investigate whether the tavern was in compliance with liquor laws. This as its emerged that one of the youngest victims is 13-years-old. Cele has questioned why parents went to bed on Saturday night, not knowing where their children were. He notes that they must also take responsibility.
