Police are prioritising the DNA backlogs. This is the assurance from police commissioner, General Sehlahle Masemola.

He says that more people have been employed to reduce the backlog.

By the end of last year, the country stood at over 24 000 DNA samples that had yet to be processed.

Police Minister Bheki Cele says that the pile-up at forensic labs will be cleared within six months.

Masemola has also assured the public that the police are working on fast-tracking the establishment of GBV desks at all police stations in the country.
