Of the seven arrested in connection with the murder of Gauteng health whistleblower, Babita Deokaran, six have been formally charged.

The seventh suspect’s involvement is under investigation, and charges have been provisionally withdrawn.

The suspects were arrested just days after Deokaran was gunned down outside her Mondeor home.

They made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today.

Amongst the charges against them include murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Hawks spokesperson, Ndivhuwo Mulamu says that all suspects hail from KwaZulu-Natal.

They’re due back in court on September 13 for a formal bail application.
