DA Backtracks on Golf Course Affordable Housing

The DA has been caught flip flopping on the issue of using golf courses to build affordable housing in Cape Town.

The party’s leader John Steenhuisen claimed that they are looking at accessing golf courses within the City’s urban edges.

He said that the DA-run City had been tasked to look at how they can release those well-located pieces of land to use for mixed-use developments where people can live, work and play.

But the DA has since backtracked saying it has no intention of converting  golf courses or any other sport or recreation facilities.

Housing activist groups who have long called for the better use of golf courses say they had been suspicious of the DA leader’s utterances.

Michael Clark, Ndifuna Ukwazi’s Head of Research and Advocacy notes that it’s election season and politicians tend to be dishonest. He says they make promises that they don’t necessarily intend on keeping. Clark says it’s not the first time that the DA has made these promises.
