Labour federation Cosatu has come out in support of a worker who has been dismissed for refusing to take the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) has upheld her employer’s decision.

Cosatu says that workers’ jobs must be protected at all costs.

The labour federation has encouraged the affected employee to take the CCMA’s ruling on review.

But it was also a strong proponent of mandatory vaccinations in the workplace.

Meanwhile the South African Federation of Trade Unions has rallied against mandatory vaccinations.

It has instead called for people to exercise their right to choose, and for employers to conduct the necessary research to accommodate people who may still be hesitant about being inoculated against Covid-19.
