The Khayelitsha community has questioned the apparent poor resourcing of the local district hospital.

The facility’s CEO, David Binza has revealed that the conditions at the hospital are symptomatic of a failed government, and the influx of the population and the small funds available has resulted in the deplorable conditions at the hospital.

In response, the Khayelitsha Development Forum’s Deputy Secretary, Funeka Mampetha says that patients have to sleep on the floor.

“The district hospital has only been allocated 250 beds. We have taken our concerns to the Western Cape Health Department because patients have not been relocated to address the overflows” says Mampetha.
