Christmas weekend filled with gun violence and gang murders

Now that Christmas is just days away, Cape Flats residents and other communities are calling for a festive season ceasefire. Local community activists and leaders have urged policing bodies to intensify their anti-gang and crime initiatives in local communities over the festive season weekends. During the festive season, reports of gun violence and gang murders escalate over the Christmas weekend. Secretary for the Kraaifontein Community Development Forum Louis Botha says while December is a highpoint of the bust holiday season, it is notoriously known to be a destructive period. Botha adds that gang-infested communities tend to see an uptick in road accidents, crime, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, child neglect, and injuries.
