Children are being conditioned to violence, but this doesn’t mean that they are not experiencing trauma.

Psychologist, Daniel Hollander was speaking as children had witnessed the brutal mob attack on an e-hailing driver in Parkwood last week.

Hollander contends that South Africans have a long and complicated relationship with violence and trauma. He says that people in their 40s have more than likely had a traumatic experience that may have been suppressed.

However, this does not mean that they will not pass it on to their children. Hollander says that children must be guided by their parents, and censorship laws are therefore in place as an extra protection.
