Cape Police Reluctant to Link Spate of Mass of Shootings

Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in Wesbank last night.

An unknown suspect reportedly opened fire on two people walking in Springerskuil Street, in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the head and died on the scene.

The woman walking with him sustained injuries to her neck.

The suspect sped off in a white sedan. Cases of murder and attempted murder are being investigated by the Mfuleni police.

Authorities are reluctant to link the spate of mass of shootings rocking certain areas in Cape Town.

Policing expert, Eldred de Klerk says that while gangs are linked to these incidents, it’s still too early to determine whether these are being driven by the same motives.

He was speaking to Radio 786 as the Gugulethu community has been witness to the shooting of eight people.

Meanwhile, in Seawinds, a man was shot and killed in his car and in Samora Machel three people were gunned down.
