Calls to save Primrose sports field from sale

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has reportedly given an undertaking to halt the impending auction of a portion of land in Kenilworth that is used Primrose Sports Club. It follows complaints of what has been called a shammed consultation process.

It’s understood the City wants the land located in 7 College Road to be used for a housing development.

Primroses Cricket Club indicates they are not averse to development but have taken issue that they were not consulted in the process which apparently happened in 2019.

The club says the mayor has promised further engagement on finding a suitable development plan for the club as well as assuring options for a more secured tenure over the land.

The club’s executive member Mickaeel Kolier commended the mayor for his intervention but warned that they will stand their ground as these incidents remind them of the painful history of their forefathers being expelled from their areas during Apartheid.
