A BMW-powered air car has been granted the go-ahead to fly.

The Slovak Transport Authority awarded the AirCar with an official Certificate of Airworthiness. According to Klein Vision, the company behind the flying car, the AirCar underwent 70 hours of rigorous flight testing, including more than 200 takeoffs and landings.

The AirCar is powered by a 1.6 liter BMW engine and runs on petrol like any ordinary car.

Klein Vision says a pilot license is required to operate the hybrid vehicle. The company is hopeful that the AirCar will be commercially available within the next year.
