Australians have rallied across the country to fight a landmark Indigenous rights reform ahead of the polls before the October 14th referendum.

Dubbed as the “Voice”, if the vote is passed in favour of Indigenous people, it will grant Indigenous Australians a constitutional right to be consulted on policies that affect them.

Tens of thousands of people joined the “Walk for Yes” events in major cities ahead of the vote. In order for the referendum to be passed, it needs a majority support across Australia but also a majority in at least four of the six states.

Voting for the referendum is compulsory. Those who decide not to vote without a valid reason would be fined 20 Australian dollars.
