The ANC has come out as the biggest winners in yesterday’s national by-elections. The voting took place in 24 wards across 17 municipalities across the country. The polls were contested by 77 candidates representing 14 political parties along with 18 independent candidates.
The ANC retained 12 wards, won five and lost one. The main opposition, the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained six wards and lost two. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has deemed the latest round of by-elections a success. The turnout for this by-election was just over 34 per cent as opposed to the less than 38 per cent in the 11th November poll.
