Human rights group, Amnesty International has urged countries across the Americas to stop their racist treatment of Haitian asylum seekers.

The call was made as the globe observes World Refugee Day.

Amnesty says instead of Haitians receiving solidarity from other countries, they’re being subjected to racism, xenophobia and systematic violence all while they search for protection.

The group had documented cases of assault, arbitrary detention, torture, mass deportation and discrimination against asylum seekers in Peru, Chile, the US and Mexico amongst others.

They add that the reason for them fleeing their own country is because they don’t have access to basic services and legal protection.
