The ANC believes that having a national shutdown is not in the best interest of South Africa. It was responding to the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) planned shutdown strike on March 20th.

The ruling party says that while the right to protest is enshrined in the constitution to make their voices heard, a protest that advocates chaos and lawlessness which seeks to undermine the rule of law must be condemned.

This, as the EFF is calling for an end to load shedding and President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down. The ANC adds that there is nothing revolutionary about the EFF wanting to embark on a national shutdown.

Now, the ANC’s comments come as it failed to adequately address the load shedding crisis that has plagued South Africans for more than 15 years, leaving citizens and businesses frustrated as their daily lives have needed to adjust around the power outage schedules.
