The security companies that had been employed by Prasa had been draining the parastatal of necessary funds. Spokesperson Makhosini Mgitywa was responding as a spat is brewing between the Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA). The veterans have taken issue with Prasa’s decision to remove security companies previously contracted to guard railways. Mgitywa says that over a three-year period, Prasa had lost R 1 billion in infrastructure, despite private security companies being deployed to protect those resources.

The ANC will meet with Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula following a spat that played out on Twitter. The party’s secretary-general Ace Magashule made the announcement after meeting with members of the Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA). The veterans had taken to the streets accusing Minister Mbalula of failing the country’s transport system. But the Minister has hit back at them via Twitter, alleging the outrage is based on the decision to cancel the contracts of private security companies tasked with protecting Prasa infrastructure. He has gone on to lament that some MK veterans are using that title to amass wealth, while draining the resources of the public and State.
