A total of five alleged gang-affiliated suspects has been arrested following a deadly shooting in Steenberg this afternoon.
They were apprehended shortly after a double murder on Military Road that claimed the lives of two men aged 23 and 37.
Officers responded to reports of the shooting at around 12:30 and were informed that the suspects had fled the scene in a red VW Polo.
Police launched a high-speed chase, prompting the suspects to abandon the vehicle in Kirstenhof. The group allegedly hijacked a white Toyota Run X in an attempt to evade arrest. Officers tracked down and arrested the five men shortly afterwards. During a search of the vehicle, police recovered two assault rifles.
The suspects, aged between 27 and 40, are believed to be linked to gang activity. The accused are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
