In a span of about seven hours, 31 people have been killed in three mass shootings in Cape Town and Gauteng.
In Cape Town:
– 10 people were shot and killed in Lwandle.
– The shooting occurred at around 01h46 on Sunday at a local entertainment place that sells braaied meat.
– Murder and attempted murder cases have been opened for investigation.
In a separate attack:
– Four people were shot and killed in Mthuma Street, Site C, Khayelitsha.
– The attack occurred on Saturday.
– Upon arrival of SAPS at 19h15, three men with multiple gunshot wounds were found inside a stationary vehicle.
– A fourth victim succumbed to his injuries en route to a medical facility.
– It’s understood that the victims reportedly all inside the vehicle when they came under attack.
In Gauteng:
– 17 people were gunned down and killed in a tavern shooting in West Rand District.
– The incident occurred on Saturday night at around 21h30.
– Eight suspects stormed the premises armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols.
– 15 people were injured in the attack.
– Two vehicles were set alight.
– Police opened up 17 cases of murder, 15 attempted cases and two counts of malicious damage to property.
The motive for the respective attacks are yet to be determined. No arrests have been made in either of the attacks.
