The Worcester Regional Court has sentenced a Zimbabwean man to life imprisonment for the human trafficking and rape of a child. The 33-year-old David Chauke was also found guilty on charges of abduction, sexual exploitation of children, and the contravention of the Immigration Act.
The Hawks say the case stems from November 2020, when information was received about a 12-year-old girl living as the wife of a man in Robertson. The man was subsequently arrested. Chauke has been added to the National Register for Sex Offenders and has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Hawks’ Western Cape Head, Major General Makgato, has hailed the multi-disciplinary team, which included the Department of Social Development and Interpol, for their work. Makgato says the exploitation of young children by hard-core criminals will never be tolerated and they will ensure that they fulfill their constitutional mandate to protect the future generation.
