Six suspects have been arrested following a hijacking incident in Cape Town during the early hours of Saturday morning.
City of Cape Town traffic officers assisted the South African Police Service (SAPS) after being alerted to a possible hijacked vehicle at around 01:40 near the R300 southbound and Van Reebeck Road.
The suspects allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Two traffic vehicles joined the pursuit, resulting in three suspects being apprehended by traffic officers. SAPS members subsequently arrested three more suspects.
The vehicle owner later confirmed that the car had been hijacked in Mfuleni. She also reported that her husband had been stabbed during the incident.
In a separate incident on Friday, a Highway Patrol Unit officer’s in-vehicle Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system alerted him to a reported stolen vehicle.
The system identified a white Ford Courier travelling northbound on Valhalla Drive. The officer immediately made a U-turn and followed the vehicle before stopping it along Bofors Circle in Epping.
The driver was found to be in possession of an invalid driver’s licence. Further checks confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Kleinvlei.
The driver and vehicle were handed over to Elsies River SAPS. A case was opened for possession of suspected stolen property.
Cape Town Traffic Service spokesperson Kevin Jacobs praised the officers involved in both incidents for their swift response and assistance in recovering the stolen vehicles.
