Cape Town’s Traff(ick) problem

Cape Town’s Draft Revised Travel Demand Management Strategy is up for public comment. The strategy aims to tackle growing traffic congestion, long travel times, and the increasing pressure on the city’s transport system.

The City says that this strategy encourages a shift away from single-occupant car travel by promoting public transport, walking, cycling, lift-clubs, and flexible work arrangements. It also explores measures such as dedicated public transport lanes, improved park-and-ride facilities, smarter parking management, and possible congestion pricing. Will this strategy work for Cape Town, especially as the municipality becomes more densely populated?
