5-Year Old Flag Down Law Enforcement to Rescue Hijacked Father

A City of Cape Town Law Enforcement officer has been hailed a hero after rescuing a five-year-old girl during a hijacking incident in Blue Downs.

On May 21st, just before 09h00, little Fatiya Handino and her father were held at gunpoint outside their home. The hijackers forcibly removed her father from the vehicle and fled the scene with her still inside.

At the time of the hijacking, Officer Chimoney Abrahams and her colleagues who were deployed as escorts for the Energy Directorate passed the scene and were flagged down by Fatiya’s father who explained what had transpired. Abrahams and her team quickly fled in the direction where the hijacked vehicle was last seen.

It is understood that the suspect left the child on the side of the road before fleeing into a nearby bush to escape. However, he was quickly spotted and apprehended.

The 32-year-old has been handed over to SAPS.
