Tensions between the US and Cuba have escalated sharply after Washington imposed fresh sanctions on 11 senior Cuban officials.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that more sanctions are expected in the coming days and weeks. This comes as Cuba faces one of its worst economic crises in decades, with severe fuel shortages and rolling blackouts.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has strongly condemned the sanctions, accusing the US of “multidimensional aggression” and warning that Cuba has the right to defend itself against any military assault.
