Teams from South African National Parks at Table Mountain National Park are continuing extensive storm damage assessments across multiple sections of the park following recent adverse weather conditions that affected parts of Cape Town.
Park management confirmed on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, that ranger teams remain deployed across affected areas to assess damage, clear hazards, and restore safe public access where possible.
One of the key updates issued by the Park is the reopening of the Forest Link Walkway at Boulders Penguin Colony, which is now accessible to visitors again after inspections were completed.
However, several other areas across the park continue to experience storm-related disruptions.
In Glencairn, officials reported that a fallen tree caused damage to the fence surrounding the Youth Camp facility. In Tokai, multiple fallen branches were identified along Tokai Road, while the picnic bridge in the area remains flooded due to persistent water accumulation.
Assessments are also ongoing in the Silvermine section of the park, where rangers are continuing to evaluate the extent of storm damage and potential safety risks before determining whether further closures or interventions may be required.
Meanwhile, rangers stationed in Newlands Forest, together with the NCC team, are currently engaged in clearing a fallen tree in Orangekloof.
Park authorities noted that updates will continue to be issued as additional reports are received from various sections of the park.
Management has urged all visitors, hikers, cyclists, and recreational users to exercise caution when entering natural areas, to comply with any temporary closures, and to wait for safer weather conditions before accessing mountainous or forested sections of the park.
The recent weather system has once again highlighted the vulnerability of Cape Town’s natural spaces to winter storm conditions, particularly in heavily wooded and mountainous terrain where falling trees, flooding, and unstable pathways can present significant dangers to the public.
