Muizenberg police are investigating the murder of a 48-year-old man.
According to police spokesperson, Captain F.C Van Wyk, they received a complaint from a medical facility in Retreat about a person who was declared deceased upon arrival having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. It’s believed that the attack is gang-related. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the Sunday afternoon incident.
In Ravensmead, an alleged gang leader was arrested on charges related to unlicensed firearms and ammunition following an intelligence-driven raid under Operation Lockdown III.
The 33-year-old, who is alleged to control the gang’s firearms, led officers to a cache of firearms and ammunition which was hidden near a block of flats in the area.
An R5 rifle, a shotgun, three pistols, and more than 160 rounds of ammunition, as well as several magazines were found. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, says four out of the five illegal firearms’ serial numbers were filed off. All the seized firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing, to determine whether they were used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Parow Magistrate’s Court soon. Investigations continue.
Meanwhile Mitchells Plain police are investigating two counts of attempted murder. It follows a shooting incident on Chrysler Street in Beacon Valley on Saturday evening, just before 20h30.
A 43 and 59-year-old man were allegedly sitting inside the house when shots went off, penetrating a door and window. The 43-year-old victim sustained an injury on his left leg while the 59-year-old was shot in his lower back. They were both transported to a medical facility for treatment. No arrests have yet been made.
Lentegeur detectives are also investigating the murder of a 17-year-old boy in Glenside Road, Morgan Village. The shooting took place on Friday night, at around nine o’clock. The boy sustained one gunshot wound and was transported to a medical facility where he succumbed to the injuries. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and the motive is yet to be determined.
