At least five people have been murdered, and three others wounded in two separate mass shootings in Cape Town.
According to police, a triple murder took place during the early hours of Saturday morning at a premises in Gugulethu’s Nontulo Street. A 24-year-old man was also injured in the attack.
Preliminary reports indicate that suspects gained entry and opened fire on a group of individuals socialising in a backyard.
Those fatally shot were between the ages of 24 and 40.
Police say the motive for this attack is yet to be confirmed, but investigators are exploring the possibility that it may have been a targeted hit.
In the second attack, a 41-year-old woman and 43-year-old man were shot dead in the Marikana informal settlement in Philippi East. Two other men sustained injuries.
Police say the circumstances surrounding this attack suggest that robbery may have been the motive.
Police have condemned these senseless attacks. It says that resources are being mobilised to bring those responsible for this criminality to justice.
