Iranian ambassador engages Cape Town leadership collective

Iranian Ambassador to South Africa, Mansoor Shakib Mehr has praised the Department of International Relations and Co-operation’s (DIRCO) stance, by refusing to allow the United States to bully it into accepting a Western narrative.

He was addressing members of the media, civil society, and politicians in a special briefing hosted at the Castle of Good Hope.

Mehr noted that Iran will always align with people standing against oppressive regimes. He says that shortly after the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran cut off all relations with the Apartheid regime and supported the local resistance in its fight against the oppressors. Mehr further stressed the importance of not being confused by the Zionist narrative of war of Iran.

“Religious leaders and scholars, Allah has placed a heavy responsibility on your shoulders. It is your duty to convey the truth to the people. You know better than anyone that all religions and schools of thought emphasize following truth and justice. Do not let Western media stories cover the eyes and hearts of those seeking the truth. Publish the Iranian narrative of this conflict. True friends are those who help us in times of need. Verbal support and prayers are valuable. But today, more than ever, we need action and practical solidarity to show the truth to the world.”

South Africa recently pledged that it would not sever ties with Iran as the Trump administration has openly claimed that it seeks Pretoria’s shift away from Iran, especially in the midst of the American-Israeli aggression on the Persian country.

The Iranian ambassadors engagement with local leaders took place at the Castle of Goodhope, organized by the Cape Town Ulema Board. Other notable attendees included Judge Siraj Desai who outlined the pattern of abuse of International law.
