A warrant of arrest has been issued with immediate effect to Sheperd Bushiri and his wife Mary. This forms part of the process to extradite the couple from Malawi so they can answer to fraud, theft and money laundering charges in South Africa.
The couple are out on a R200 000 bail each, but failed to adhere to their bail agreements. Director for the Government Communications Information Systems (GCIS) Phumla Williams says the warrant of arrest forms as the basis of the documentation that government would submit to the Malawian state to extradite the Bushiri’s.
The Hawks are also investigating how the couple managed to violate immigration laws after handing in their travel documents as part of their bail requirements.
