40,000 UIF payments outstanding

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has 400 000 in outstanding payments. This comes as Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi announced that the fund is running low on resources and only has R50 billion available.

UIF spokesperson Makhonsonke Buthelezi says the fund is still waiting for employers to send their workers’ updated information so that the fund can pay put the outstanding claimants. Buthelezi adds that the UIF has a system in place which automatically updates the claimants’ information once sent. Once the UIF receives the corrected claimant information it will move to the Temporary Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) so payments can be made.
