The Anti-Economic Crime Task Team has confiscated hundreds of mandrax tablets during a drug bust in Khayelitsha. Police say the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team this morning.

Officers acted on intelligence about suspected drug activity at a house in G-Section. The team arrived at the premises shortly after 7am and conducted a search. A 39-year-old woman was found at the property during the operation. Police recovered nearly 780 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R 45,000.

The drugs were seized as evidence and the woman was arrested on charges of possession of drugs. Authorities say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crime in communities. The suspect is expected to be formally charged and detained pending her court appearance.

She is due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once the charging process has been completed.
