Elon Musk’s Starlink could soon enter South Africa. But experts warn that it should be closely watched

The potential entering of Starlink into South Africa’s telecommunication space will need to be watched.

The satellite internet service is controlled by billionaire Elon Musk who is a senior advisor to US President Donald Trump.

Speaking after the meeting with Trump and other US officials, President Cyril Ramphosa, says the Starlink matter was not part of the discussions.

But indicated that part of the trade package they speak to creating a conducive environment for foreign direct investment.

A Bloomberg report signalled that Pretoria was looking at a workaround in relation to Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) laws to accommodate Musk who had complained about the legislation which aim to redress apartheid’s legacy.
