Christian Zionists Believe War on Iran Is a ‘Biblical End Time’

The United States military has become an entity where faith, power, and warfare appear to be dangerously entangled.

More than 200 service members have lodged complaints alleging that commanders are using extremist Christian “end times” rhetoric to justify the war with Iran. According to reports, biblical images of Armageddon and divine destiny are being invoked to motivate troops.

But this is not happening in a vacuum, there are concerns that the rise of Christian nationalism is growing in the US, and is being used by the Zionist lobby to justify America’s support for the Israeli regime. Guest: Reverend Dr Allan Boesak, theologian, and anti‑apartheid activist.

Some Christian Zionists interpret a potential war involving Iran through the lens of biblical end-times prophecy, viewing it as part of a larger divine plan centered on Israel. Drawing on interpretations of scriptures such as Ezekiel and Revelation, they often associate modern-day Iran with “Persia,” a nation described in prophetic texts as participating in a future conflict against Israel.

Within this framework, escalating tensions in the region are seen not merely as geopolitical events but as signs of an approaching climax in history, sometimes linked to the anticipated battle of Armageddon and the return of Jesus Christ.

While these beliefs are influential in certain evangelical circles, they are not universally held across Christianity, and many theologians caution against directly linking contemporary conflicts to prophetic fulfillment.
