Democrats have reclaimed control of the US House of Representatives, ending the Republican hold on the presidency and both chambers of Congress that began with President Donald Trump’s second term in 2025.
According to the Associated Press, Democratic candidates secured a 221–129 advantage in the reported results, with 27 seats flipped, as voters voiced their frustration over the economy and the country’s direction.
Democrats made Trump a central target of their campaigns, linking his administration to rising living costs and the US war on Iran.
The victory gives Democrats greater power to challenge the Republican legislative agenda, elect the House speaker, and take control of the House Oversight Committee, including its broad investigative and subpoena powers.
