Three Suspects Arrested in Connection of Fatal Shooting in Mfuleni on Thursday

Three men have been arrested in connection with a deadly attack on a taxi in Mfuleni on Thursday night.
A 34-year-old taxi driver was shot dead in his vehicle, while a female was wounded and taken to hospital.

Police say the swift response by members of the Mfuleni Crime Prevention Unit, who were on patrol in Ngubelani Street, led to the arrests after they noticed the trio.

The suspects attempted to evade them but were caught and found with four 9mm pistols. They had a total of 147 rounds of ammunition. Further investigation led the officers to the taxi crime scene.

The suspects, who are aged between 25 and 30, are set to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Monday. They face charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.

Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais has commended the police members for their vigilance and decisive action in pursuing the armed suspects.

She says it’s now critical that investigators build a strong case and connect all the dots. They will need to establish not only who pulled the trigger, but also who ordered the killing, supplied the firearms and orchestrated this violence.
