Ending Gender-Based Violence: Islam, Women’s Safety & Our Collective Responsibility

Condemning gender-based violence is not enough. What must we do to create real change?

Over the past two episodes of “Protecting Dignity, Upholding Justice: Islam, Women and Our Social Responsibility,” we have explored what Islam teaches about the dignity and protection of women and confronted the devastating reality of femicide and gender-based violence in our communities.

In this final episode, we move from awareness and condemnation to action, accountability and collective responsibility.

Joining us is Sh Igsaan Taliep, senior lecturer and religious scholar, as we reflect on the responsibilities we carry as individuals, men, families, religious leaders and communities in confronting injustice and creating safer environments for women.

This conversation reminds us that protecting women is not the responsibility of survivors alone. It requires families, men, religious leaders, institutions and entire communities to take meaningful steps towards change.

As we conclude this series, the challenge is clear: How do we turn our words into action and ensure that dignity, justice and safety become a lived reality for women in our communities?
