In another win for the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), it secured R42.4 million in cash and assets linked to alleged bribes at Tembisa Hospital.
This includes properties, pension benefits and investments. According to the SIU, the money is linked to businessman Stefan Govindraju’s alleged syndicate.
The unit added that the syndicate used 75 companies to secure around R600 million in hospital contracts and R100million was paid to hospital officials as kickbacks. Last month, Govindraju was arrested. He faces 70 charges linked to the alleged corruption.
The SIU has referred evidence of possible criminal conduct to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
