Police have recovered six stolen vehicles and arrested one suspect during an intelligence-driven operation in Mandalay.
Members of the Flying Squad and Crime Intelligence acted on a tip-off on Monday night and searched two residential properties in the area.
At a home in Dickens Drive, officers recovered a Toyota Starlet which had recently been hijacked in Harare, Khayelitsha.
Police then searched a second property in Melderson Road, where they found four Volkswagen Polos and a Toyota Hilux.
Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala says the vehicles were suspected to be stolen and that investigators found that the vehicle identification numbers had been tampered with.
Further investigations linked several of the recovered vehicles to hijacking cases reported in Cape Town Central, Woodstock and Muizenberg.
Police say the vehicles had been reported stolen between July and September this year.
One suspect was arrested during the operation and is expected to face charges relating to the possession of suspected stolen property and vehicle-related crimes.
